Overstock Gives Back

Online Shopping Site Offers Customers Charitable Opportunities 365 Days a Year

SALT LAKE CITY, Dec. 1, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Online shopping retailer, Overstock.com, Inc. (Nasdaq:OSTK) offers its customers a chance to be charitable all year long, but it's during the holidays that the spotlight is really turned on the company's altruistic spirit.

"At the core of this company is a very generous soul," said Overstock President Stormy Simon. "We believe it's important for us to be charitable as well as offering charitable options to our customers, especially on Giving Tuesday, Dec. 2, and throughout the holiday season."

During the website's checkout process, customers have the option to donate to the Wounded Warrior Program, The Best Friends Animal Society, or The Red Cross as they complete their purchases. The minimum amount for these donations is one dollar, allowing customers to contribute to these causes at the level they can afford.

"Every little bit helps," said Simon. "So far, Overstock customers have given a combined $1.7 million to these three charities, one dollar at a time."

Overstock also has a series of socially responsible programs on the website, including the Worldstock Fair Trade, Main Street Revolution, Pet Adoption, and Farmers Market divisions. These programs provide small US-based businesses, global artisans, national animal shelters, and farmers across the country exposure to consumers on Overstock's website.

To date, Overstock's Worldstock program has returned over $115 million to artisans and their representatives to help increase economic stability in these developing regions. The online retailer also gives back from Worldstock sales to help increase education and skilled labor opportunities in the artisan's local communities.

Most recently, Overstock has partnered with Give Back Box to provide pre-paid labels allowing customers to re-use boxes from their Overstock orders to ship gently used household items to non-profit organizations.
