Governor Markell Joins SolarCity to Launch New Delaware Operations Center in Newark

State's solar adoption is creating more local jobs

NEWARK, Del., April 16, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- SolarCity® (Nasdaq:SCTY), America's #1 solar power provider, has launched its second operations center in Delaware in the city of Newark. Governor Jack Markell joined the company this morning to celebrate the increase in jobs and clean energy production that the new warehouse brings to the state. SolarCity makes it possible for many Delaware homeowners to install solar for no upfront cost and pay less for solar electricity than they pay for power from the local utility. Recent Delaware customers have been paying up to 25 percent less for solar electricity than they pay for utility power, and customer adoption of solar power in New Castle County and across the state is driving local job growth.

"The future of solar in Delaware is bright and we remain focused on being a leader in the adoption of renewable energy," said Governor Markell. "SolarCity's expanded presence and the jobs being created at this new facility are a win-win. They support our ongoing clean energy efforts and, most importantly, are putting more people to work in Delaware."

Governor Markell and the Delaware Legislature have championed the growth of the clean energy economy in the state with key policies like a renewable portfolio standard mandating that 25 percent of the state's energy production comes from renewable energy by 2026.

SolarCity launched in Delaware a year ago with the opening its Seaford operations center, one of the more than 70 regional warehouses SolarCity has across the nation. Now, the company has more than 90 employees across Delaware and plans to fill more than 50 additional local positions. SolarCity operations centers serve as a base for installation crews and vehicles, electricians, site surveyors and local sales teams.
