IpAuctions(TM) Offers A Unique Patent Increasing Safety In The Snowboarding Industry

IpAuctions(TM) offers the patent registered as Combination Carrying Strap and Tether for Snowboards, USPTO Patent Registration #8979113, for a live online auction May 27-29, 2015.

BRIDGEWATER, N.J., May 5, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- via PRWEB - Patent Offering

The patent's technology consists of a retractable combination carrying strap and tether device for snowboards. The original USPTO filing date was June 24, 2003 and the patent approval was received on March 17, 2015. This is the first USPTO patent covering technology enabling dual use of a snowboard carrying strap that also functions as a safety tether (leash).

The unique device combines a safety tether and carrying strap into a single, retractable unit, which attaches to one snowboard binding. The retractable unit contains a spring-wound strap within its housing and has an external flange, which connects the device to the binding. The unit is permanently secured to a binding on the snowboard. While existing safety tethers are commonly worn around the snowboarder's knee or lower leg, this device's safety tether is attached to one boot by a hooking latch to the laces, or key ring attached to the laces.

For the carrying position, the tether is removed from the boot attachment hook and connected to the opposite binding of the snowboard. In this position, the woven nylon mesh strap can be slung over the shoulder to carry the snowboard.

The sale of the patent also includes the following:

One (1) Official set of injectable moldings for the plastic injection manufacturing process. These enable the production of large quantities of high quality parts with great accuracy very quickly.

CAD drawings, the official computer-aided designs, show appearance and function of the device after it is built. These dimensional drawings include processes and materials.

Forty (40) assembled demonstration units are ready to be used and installed on snowboards. Several hundred assembled units have already been sold to ski chalets in the Northeast United States.

4,500 display packaging units hold precisely the amount of product desired.

Snowboarding Industry Facts

Snowboarding is popular in over 40 countries around the world. In the United States, most snow resorts and ski lift areas require snowboard safety tethers. These reduce the risk of runaway boards causing potential problems like unforeseen equipment malfunctions, losing the snowboard, having to fetch the board, or even hitting someone downhill. Safety measures are crucial for mitigating recreational injuries and snowboard damage.

During the 2013/2014 season, there were over 7 million snowboarders. Participants who ranged between 18-54 years of age totaled 72.5 percent, while 25.7 percent were youths within ages 6 to 17. Most snowboarders do not choose to pursue the extreme, most demanding aspects of the sport. Instead, they seek intrinsic participation rewards that are social, outdoors, athletic, challenging, and recreational.
