Long Beach Container Terminal Receives Top Environmental Award From Leading State Environmental Coalition

LOS ANGELES, May 26, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Long Beach Container Terminal ("LBCT") and their parent company Orient Overseas Container Lines ("OOCL") were recognized last week in Los Angeles, California by the State's leading environmental advocacy group, the Coalition for Clean Air ("CCA"), with its top award for environmental stewardship. Anthony Otto, president of LBCT, was specifically recognized by the CCA "for his efforts in working towards a zero emission terminal at the Port of Long Beach."

Also recognizing Mr. Otto and LBCT for their groundbreaking work on the Middle Harbor Redevelopment Project (MHRP) were Mary Nichols, Executive Director of the California Air Resources Board, Joe Lyou, member of the South Coast Air Quality Management District and actor/activist Ed Begley Jr.

"I am truly honored to have received this award on behalf of LBCT and OOCL from such a prestigious group as the CCA," said Otto. "To be on the same stage with leaders like Mary Nichols, Sen. Ricardo Lara and Joe Lyou for our environmental achievements is truly humbling."

The CCA award was presented for LBCT's efforts on Middle Harbor, a $1.4 billion redevelopment project that will transform two antiquated terminal facilities into the most modern, environmentally friendly and technologically advanced terminal in the United States.

"What LBCT has done with the integration of zero emission technologies such as electrified terminal cranes, Automated Guided Vehicles and a state of the art battery exchange building should set the standard for decades to come," said Dr. Noel Hacegaba, Chief Commercial Officer from the Port of Long Beach, who was also in attendance.

As part of the awards ceremony, Otto participated in a panel discussion with other recipients where he thanked strategic partners for their work on the MHRP including the Port and the ILWU.
