ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., June 2, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) shareholders have elected Steven K. Ruggieri to the company's board of directors. Ruggieri has more than 35 years of experience building and managing technology development and product businesses for both government and commercial markets.

We look forward to the expertise and perspectives he will bring to the ARA board," said Scott Blouin, ARA senior vice president and chair of the ARA Board Nominating/Governance Committee, which led the search for a new director.
Ruggieri served as chief operating officer at Foster Miller, later Qinetiq Technology Solutions Group, from 2003-2010 where he directed Research and Development, Engineering, and Product Operations. At Foster Miller, Ruggieri managed contract research programs in a wide variety of technology areas for numerous government agencies. His 32-year track record there involved responsibility and direction for all phases of building engineering business groups including identifying acquisitions and transitioning R &D to products. Following that, Ruggieri became the chief executive officer at Dynasil Corporation.
Ruggieri holds a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University (NU). He currently teaches engineering leadership at NU's Graduate College of Engineering, serves as an advisor to start-up companies, and is a member of the Launchpad Venture Group, a Boston-based angel investing group that provides funding and advice to innovative technology start-ups.
Ruggieri fills the vacancy on ARA's board created upon the retirement of John J. Healey, Ph.D. who served as ARA Director since 2003, as Chairman of the Board since 2010, and is now a director emeritus.
