ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., June 12, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Applied Research Associates Inc.'s board of directors has elected James P. Allen as chairman. Mr. Allen has over 30 years of experience as a senior financial executive in the aerospace and defense and federal government technology services industries, and he has served as the chief financial officer of four publicly traded federal information technology services sector companies.
Mr. Allen fills the vacancy on ARA's board created upon the recent retirement of John J. Healey, who served as chairman of the board since 2010 and is now a director emeritus.

Mr. Allen's experience covers a broad range of public and private financing activities and extensive work in investor relations and mergers and acquisitions. Significant activities include the sale of GRC International to AT &T, the purchase of Signal Corporation by Veridian, the sale of Veridian Corporation to General Dynamics Corporation and the sale of QSS Group to Perot Systems, as well as leading the successful IPO of Global Defense Technology & Systems.
Mr. Allen currently serves on the boards of several companies, both private and public, in the federal technology services sector, including NCI Information Systems Inc., Noblis Inc. and Preferred Systems Solutions Inc. He has been an ARA director since 2009.
Mr. Allen received both a B.S. in Business and Operations Research and an MBA from the University of Maryland and has been a certified public accountant since 1974.
