Canada's World Class Seafarers

CSA Recognizes International Day of the Seafarer

OTTAWA, June 25, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Canadian Shipowners Association recognizes the essential contribution of world-class Canadian mariners on the International Day of the Seafarer to the safety of the marine environment and successful marine commerce.

Canadian mariners are employed by the domestic Canadian flag fleet, the Royal Canadian Navy, the Canadian Coast Guard, pilots and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. "Thousands of Canadian men and women work in Canadian waters with the utmost care to protect the marine environment," said CSA President Robert Lewis-Manning, "and are involved in everything from marine commerce, icebreaking, research, to search and rescue and exploration."

The International Maritime Organization established the International Day of the Seafarer in 2010 to recognize the role of mariners in marine transportation, which carries the majority of global goods and commodities safely and sustainably.
