ROAD SCHOLAR'S FRIENDSHIP CONTEST CELEBRATES CONNECTIONS MADE ON ITS EXTRAORDINARY EDUCATIONAL ADVENTURES

BOSTON, June 30, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Road Scholar, the not-for-profit world leader in educational learning adventures, celebrates 40 years of offering incredible experiences that have delighted and transformed the lives of millions of participants. As part of that celebration this year, Road Scholar is showcasing the heart of its program experiences — the people who attend its educational adventures and the bonds they form with other lifelong learners who share their passion for learning.

As Road Scholar kicked off its anniversary, the organization invited participants to share stories that highlight friendships and relationships that were made or strengthened on its learning programs. The response was incredible — among the finalists are a group of ladies whose love of tennis brought them together, longtime friends separated by distance who traveled to the end of the earth with Road Scholar, others who bonded overcoming personal tragedy and embarking on adventures on their own for the first time, and those who found a special connection on a foreign language program.

"When we thought about how to commemorate our 40th Anniversary, we knew that friendship and learning would be at the core of our celebration," said James Moses, President and CEO of Road Scholar. "Stories of friendship, love and personal growth from the 12 Road Scholar participants are uplifting and wonderfully illustrative of the deep relationships that form when people come together to learn — friendship and learning are integral parts of the Road Scholar experience."

There are 12 finalists from the U.S. and Canada. The selected winner will be awarded a $5,000 Road Scholar gift certificate. Voting is underway and remains open until July 31, 2015. To view short videos of each friendship story and vote for your favorite, visit www.roadscholar.org/friendscontest. Everyone is allowed to vote once each day. The winner will be announced in Road Scholar's September North America catalog.
