RALEIGH, N.C., July 8, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Elster Solutions announces that its EnergyAxis® Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) solution is being deployed as part of two new phases of the Comisión Federal de Electricidad de México's (CFE) country-wide smart grid project identified under SLT 1921.
The contracts are part of CFE's PIDIREGAS distribution loss reduction projects awarded in January 2015, whose goal is to increase efficiency of the country's electricity system. The two new phases will take place in northern Mexico.
One of the new phases encompasses deployment of several thousand meters in 11 rural communities in the state of Chihuahua. Its purpose is to reduce costs and increase efficiencies in the reading and administration of electric meters on water wells located in hard-to-reach and geographically dispersed areas.
"Because of the rural nature of this project, CFE had initially planned to deploy PLC technology. However, the demonstrated coverage and reliability of Elster's RF mesh solution, combined with its competitive return on investment, made it a desirable alternative to PLC," said Fabio Dominguez, vice president and general manager of the Elster Solutions Mexico business unit.
The second new project is focused on monitoring and remote reading of commercial and industrial (C &I) meters in the Northern States of Durango, Coahuila and Chihuahua. The new Elster technology will allow the utility to collect more accurate and reliable data and will also help commercial and industrial customers to better understand energy usage and to improve energy efficiency.
Both phases include deployment of Elster EnergyAxis software and field network devices along with Elster A3 ALPHA smart meters.
Elster's system was selected by a consortium chosen by CFE and made up of Ho1a Innovación and Tecnologias EOS. CFE generates, transmits, distributes and markets electric power for more than 38 million customers, representing over 100 million people.
