TOMI Receives Panamanian Government Endorsement and Follow-On Order

Panama's Social Security Program Expands the Use of SteraMist(TM) to 6 New Hospitals

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., July 9, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- TOMI™ Environmental Solutions, Inc. (OTCQB:TOMZ) (TOMI), a global bacteria decontamination and infection prevention company, received an endorsement of its SteraMist™ solutions from its customer the Caja del Seguro Social (CCS), Panama's Social Security program that provides healthcare to almost 90% of the country's population.

Dr. Jaime Aleman Diaz, Director of the CCS, stated: "CCS has been using TOMI's SteraMist™ technology for decontamination services since August 2012. During this time, its efficacy in the public healthcare environment has outperformed our expectations. TOMI's SteraMist™ sterilizes surfaces in a shorter time, allowing protocols to be performed on a daily basis in tandem with our healthcare staff. TOMI's solution has produced verifiable results, helping patients and dramatically reducing the overall costs of managing Hospital Associated Infections (HAIs). Due to these positive results, we have plans to place an order for TOMI's SteraMist™ to service an additional six hospitals within our network."

Dr. Halden Shane, TOMI's Chief Executive Officer, stated: "In our work with the CCS, TOMI responded to an alarming increase in hospital infections and implemented a cleaning and disinfecting protocol using SteraMist™ at the country's largest hospital. It was determined that SteraMist™ significantly reduced the presence of various bacteria on critical hospital surfaces and medical equipment including ventilators, demonstrating the significant benefit TOMI's solutions can have if implemented and standardized throughout all major public medical facilities in the country. We are excited to continue working with the CCS as well as leveraging our recent EPA registration for hospital disinfection to add new customers around the world."

By 2010, healthcare facilities within the CCS system had high rates of infection. The traditional cleaning procedures in these facilities were not enough to significantly lower the threat of such infection and, as such, the CCS began evaluating new technology solutions. In 2012, TOMI began working with the CCS to begin a pilot program consisting of a three-month testing period with SteraMist™. Following the successful program, the CCS and TOMI signed a three-year contract for decontamination services at the Complejo Hospitalario Metropolitano (CHMDRAAM), Panama's largest hospital infrastructure managing in excess of 1,800 patients per year.

The use of SteraMist™ demonstrated the following results.

  • Achieved a six-log kill.
  • Left no residue or corrosive material in mechanical instruments.
  • Eliminated the MDRO series that were originally found on surfaces within the facility.
  • Reported zero infections associated with medical devices within Intensive Care Units (ICUs), a number the hospital had not previously achieved.
  • Achieved 10 months with no infections in the neonatal area.
  • SteraMist™ helped establish a 75% reduction in infection rates from prior years.
  • Generated savings of tens of millions of dollars and saved more than 100 lives over two years of TOMI's decontamination services.
