Charlottesville-Based Scitent Celebrates 20 Years in eLearning

Scitent Entered the Digital Learning Market in July 1995; Launched One of the First Online Courses for the Healthcare Field

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA--(Marketwired - Jul 16, 2015) -  Scitent, Inc., a full-service eLearning company dedicated to the growth of an organization's eLearning business, celebrates its 20-year anniversary in 2015.

Scitent was founded in 1995 to fill a need for multimedia cardiology education. The initial creation of a CD-ROM titled "Cases in Cardiology" led four years later to the launch of CardioVillage, one of the first online courses in the healthcare field to provide online continuing medical education (CME) to healthcare providers.

For more than a decade, Scitent has sustained long-term partnerships with healthcare and nonprofit organizations, including the American Heart Association (AHA) and the University of Virginia Health System (UVA). Over the years, a total of 3.2 million learners in more than 200 countries have registered for online education courses designed and hosted by Scitent.

According to President and CEO Deb McMahon, Scitent has continued to grow, innovate and keep pace with advances in communication networks and learning technology, as evidenced by its recent release of PROPEL™ Enterprise, a full suite of technology solutions and services for growing eLearning business, including selling online courses on a much larger scale via partners, resellers or distribution networks.

"Our business requires a strong set of digital, design and technology workforce talent. We're proud to be a member of the Charlottesville business community and to have had the opportunity to offer a range of exciting and stable employment in the areas of software development, instructional design, sales, marketing, customer support and operations," said Dr. McMahon.

Dr. McMahon said much of Scitent's success can be credited to the company's two founders, cardiologists Larry Gimple and Ralph Buckley. "Without the foresight of these two pioneers regarding the need for online continuing medical education, Scitent would not be where it is today," Dr. McMahon emphasized.

Dr. Gimple is professor of medicine at the UVA School of Medicine and director of clinical cardiology and co-director, Heart and Vascular Center of the UVA Health System. Dr. Buckley practices non-invasive cardiology on the Eastern Shore of Mobile, Alabama in Fairhope and Foley.

Scitent will be commemorating its 20th anniversary with several celebrations this year, including an open house in the fall.
