Living Legend in Nursing Joins Compass Clinical Consulting

Nurse Leader Leah Curtin Appointed Senior Advisor


CINCINNATI, OH--(Marketwired - Aug 17, 2015) - Nurse leader Leah Curtin, RN, DSc(h), FAAN, has joined Compass Clinical Consulting as a senior advisor. The executive editor of American Nurse Today, the official journal of the American Nurses Association, and a clinical professor of nursing at the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing and Health, Leah brings to Compass a wealth of experience and a record of significant contributions to the nursing community.

Leah is a graduate of the Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing and the University of Cincinnati, earning a master's degree in health planning and health administration from the University and a Master of Arts in philosophy with a dual major in ethics and linguistic analysis from the Athenaeum of Ohio. In 1982, she was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing in recognition of the national impact of her work, and in 1990, she was awarded an honorary doctorate from the State University of New York for the impact on the development of healthcare in the United States. In 2002, The Medical College of Ohio awarded her a second honorary doctorate for humanitarian services in connection with her work in war-torn Yugoslavia.

Leah has authored 360 articles, primarily published in peer reviewed journals, and more than 450 editorials, and has authored or co-authored several books for nursing professionals on topics such as nursing delivery models and nursing ethics. In 2009, she was declared a "Living Legend in Nursing" by the American Academy of Nursing for her extraordinary and sustained contributions to nursing as a role model, and the positive impact of her career in influencing nursing and healthcare.

Leah has been scholar-in-residence at Ballarat University in Victoria, Australia. She also served as a visiting scholar at the University of Oklahoma, Brigham Young University, and the University of Eastern Kentucky.

Most recently, Leah was the keynote speaker at the 2015 American Nurses Association Membership Assembly in Washington, DC, where she spoke on ethics for nurses in everyday practice.
