CHARLESTON, S.C., Sept. 23, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) will team with the Hill-Rom Surgical Division to present a national seminar series to help OR nurses better implement recently updated guidelines from the association. Attendees will include operating room directors, OR educators, OR staff nurses, and other health care professionals. The multi-city series kicks off in late September in New York City then moves to LA, Houston, Philadelphia and Chicago before wrapping up in Atlanta.
AORN publishes and updates AORN Guidelines for Perioperative Practice to keep perioperative nurses informed and educated on evidence-based, best practices in the perioperative process. According to a recent survey of AORN member nurses, there was a need to have more tools to help implement those guidelines which include best practices in patient positioning.
The seminar series grew out of this expressed need and the success of Hill-Rom's OR simulation lab at the 2015 AORN Surgical Conference and Expo in Denver, according to Trumpf Medical Product Manager, Mark Watercutter.
"While AORN delivers a variety of tools to help member nurses implement its guidelines, this seminar series offers a practical, hands-on learning opportunity," said Watercutter. "It will allow participants to see, practice and ask questions about patient positioning."
Process and Safety in Patient Positioning is Key Focus
Highlights of the recently updated guidelines and seminar content will be provided by AORN's subject matter experts. After each guideline update, the companies of the Hill-Rom Surgical Division, including Allen Medical Systems and Trumpf Medical will provide hands-on workstations explaining how their products support the specific guideline.
Each seminar will present the scientific evidence supporting AORN Guidelines and describe the process for positioning surgical patients. Sessions will identify factors contributing to and the prevention of position-related patient injuries. Unique consideration will be given to preventing injuries related to positioning obese patients.
