AEGLE Palette Launches Indiegogo Campaign to Educate Consumers About New Patent-Pending Smart Placemat to Revolutionize the Nutritional Experience

AEGLE Palette Does for Diet What Fitbit Does for Exercise

KANSAS CITY, MO--(Marketwired - Oct 19, 2015) - Health tech startup, AEGLE Palette, the world's first smart placemat, announced today the start of a campaign with international crowdfunding site, Indiegogo, for its patent-pending solution. The hardware - software product will enable consumers to proactively measure, monitor and control caloric and nutrient intake for those who want to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Additionally, it will provide a personalized dietary plan to help manage and reduce preventable chronic diseases and reduce healthcare costs. The current campaign goal is set at $35,000 to be met by Nov. 19, 2015, in order to fund research and development and help educate consumers about the product. Watch the demo video.

Pre-order now on the Indiegogo page. The first 200 customers will be eligible to receive an exclusive early-bird discount, which includes 42 percent off the retail price. Contributions can be made starting Oct. 19, 2015, for as low as $5. Each donation comes with a special perk that is outlined on the campaign page. AEGLE Palette was one of five featured startups at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco and is one of 15 semifinalists for the One in a Million startup pitch competition during Global Entrepreneurship Week in Kansas City, Nov. 16-22, 2015.

Data shows that there are more than 29 million diabetes patients in the U.S. and 85 million are being affected by the disease. Additionally, more than two-thirds of the adult population and one-third of children and youth are overweight or obese. As presented in American Dietary Guideline, there are scientific evidences that many chronic diseases can be prevented and managed through healthy diet. However, most diet monitoring programs are either significantly inaccurate or so inconvenient that people cannot realistically implement it as an actionable dietary plan.

As the world's first-ever smart placemat, AEGLE Palette will utilize an intelligent, self-learning process to identify its users' dietary behavior and eating habits and then recommend foods just for them. The recommendation can come in different forms ranging from catering services or recommended local restaurants to a grocery shopping list that meets their particular needs. The AEGLE Palette is unique in that it monitors both macro (calories, fat) and micro (sugar, sodium) nutrients -- an ideal solution for people following a specific diet.

Yulin Li, co-founder and CEO of AEGLE Palette, said, "AEGLE Palette does for your diet what Fitbit does for exercise. It is a smart placemat sitting right on your dining room table. It can, in real time, measure your nutrients and calorie intake and then develop a profile after you eat."

Dr. Teresa Fung, RD, Sc.D., scientific consultant for AEGLE Palette, said, "One in four people with diabetes don't know they have it. Once diagnosed, measuring and counting with measuring cups is unreliable and unrealistic. The AEGLE Palette automatically measures what you eat -- making it very easy for patients, doctors and dieticians to get an accurate report of what they're eating."

Through strategic alliances, AEGLE Palette can be applied in several key institution markets. Physicians and hospitals can use AEGLE Palette to monitor patient diets on a real-time basis by directly connecting with a glucose monitor and a smart insulin pump to provide a more comprehensive picture of a diabetic patient's overall condition. Corporations can add AEGLE Palette to their wellness program as a tool to reduce obesity in the labor force. The company will work with insurance companies to design policy incentives for the insured to monitor their diets using AEGLE Palette, reducing overall healthcare costs.

AEGLE Palette has made significant strides to bring its innovative smart placemat to the marketplace, but additional funding will be needed to fund research and development so the complete line of products can be available in 2016.

In addition to recent press coverage by Thinking Bigger Business Magazine, Li and his co-founders were also picked for K-State's Launch A Business incubator program this summer and their product has received recent coverage from TechCrunch and the New York Observer. The startup is one of 15 semifinalists for the One in a Million startup pitch competition during Global Entrepreneurship Week in Kansas City, Nov. 16-22, 2015.

The company plans to offer AEGLE Palette in two lines: AEGLE Palette ($119) and AEGLE Palette Elite ($199) with anodized aluminum casing and other distinct features to cater to high-end consumers. Given the unique and patent-pending technology and design, there is no competitor that offers the same products. AEGLE Palette APP standard edition will be free while Premium APP will cost $4 per month for additional personalized services and ad-free features.
