ALM cyberSecure to Host Live “Hackathon” Competition at New Data-Security Conference

Inaugural Two-Day, New York Event to Help Prepare Businesses for a Major Data Breach

NEW YORK, Oct. 22, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Aimed to provide professionals from multiple industries the information and contacts they need to prepare for a major data breach, ALM cyberSecure has added a live “hackathon” to its event lineup. The “How Hacks Happen” showcase will feature college students competing for control of valuable resources. Teams will accumulate points as new resources are added to the common pool, forcing them to choose between defending existing or pursuing new assets.  Display boards will capture the action in real-time and enable attendees to keep track of the teams’ progress and rankings throughout the December 15-16 event held at the Sheraton Times Square in New York.

The competition is being organized in collaboration with Oliver Goodenough, Professor of Law at Vermont Law School and co-Director of its Center for Legal Innovation, and Jessica Archer of The Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security, University of Texas San Antonio. “Cybersecurity is both one of the most important and least understood challenges facing our country and the world but unless we have a technology background, most of us facing these problems have little understanding about how hacks actually happen,” said Goodenough. “This competition will provide attendees of all disciplines a real-time demonstration of intrusions—coupled with educational sessions on preventing, preparing and isolating attacks and even the least technical corporate executive will come out of this event armed with critical tools to manage this risk.”

JoAnn Carlton, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary at Bank of America; Richard Levick, Chairman & CEO of LEVICK; Nicole Friedlander, Chief, Complex Frauds and Cybercrime at the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York; and Bob Flores, Partner at Cognitio Corp., lead a host of expert speakers, who will provide analysis and real-world advice on a range of data security issues.

“The speed at which the interconnected world is changing and the rate at which the threat of cyber breaches is growing cannot be ignored,” said Bill Carter, CEO of ALM. "ALM cyberSecure was created to address the pressing concerns around the ongoing threat of cyberattacks disrupting businesses.  cyberSecure attendees will be provided the insight and tools they need to detect potential weaknesses and put the necessary systems in place to minimize the risk of a cyber breach.”

ALM cyberSecure is expected to attract more than 1,500 attendees and will offer an exhibit floor in addition to more than 30 educational sessions and workshops. For a complete conference agenda and other details, visit: almcybersecure.com.
