Large International Health Agency Replatforms Natural and ADABAS With Modern Systems

SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwired - November 19, 2015) - Modern Systems (NASDAQ: MDSY) announced successful replacement of a large international health agency's Software AG Adabas Natural applications. The solution replaced the Adabas databases with SQL Server databases and uses the Modern Systems advanced Application Transparency Platform (ATP®) tool suite to allow continued development and maintenance of the agency's Natural syntax in Windows.

"The agency's overall objective was to substantially reduce costs without impacting the business. Using our ATP technology, this healthcare provider was able to eliminate expensive licensing while retaining the code base they spent years developing," says Rob Anderson, Modern Systems Director of Marketing.

ATP moves the Modern Systems customer applications to Windows, eliminates the mainframe, eliminates SAG licensing, introduces relational technology to open up corporate data, and preserves the business functionality and the syntax of the Natural applications.

ATP prevents the need for end-user training while providing a Windows-based interface to the former mainframe applications. ATP provides advanced tooling for the Natural developer, including interactive debugging, drag-and-drop screen building, built-in configuration management, application/program diagramming and impact analysis. The eavJES option of ATP also provides the international healthcare provider with the ability to continue to develop and maintain JCL and Proc streams in Windows. For speed in batch processing, ATP includes an on-demand conversion engine to allow the Natural batch programs to execute as C# within eavJES.

The replacement applications went live on October 1, 2015. The impact to the end-user community was minimal. The productivity of the Natural development team is now greatly increased. The use of SQL Server has opened the healthcare agency's data to easy access by other applications and platforms. The transition will provide them with continued annual savings for years to come.
