SANS and Bit9 + Carbon Black Announce Speaker Lineup for Industry's First Threat Hunting & Incident Response Summit

Threat Intelligence Experts from Google, Endgame and First Bank among the List of Speakers

BETHESDA, Md. and WALTHAM, Mass., Dec. 10, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- SANS Institute, the global leader in information security training, and Bit9® + Carbon Black®, the leader in Next-Generation Endpoint Security, today announced the speaker lineup for the inaugural SANS Threat Hunting & Incident Response (THIR) Summit. Taking place April 12-13, 2016, in New Orleans, the summit will teach IR pros the most advanced techniques for discovering and vanquishing threats. Training courses will also be taught April 14 – 19 in conjunction with the summit.

"Organizations are exhausted by the constant need to respond to attacks. It is for that reason the demand for threat hunting has been created. Threat hunters have a unique skill set, they are able to leverage cyber threat intelligence from previous intrusions and scalable detection to proactively pursue the next intrusion. They have a gift for turning over the right stone at the right time," said Rob Lee, Fellow and DFIR Lead at SANS.

Ben Johnson, chief security strategist for Bit9 + Carbon Black, added: "The THIR Summit brings together, for the first time, industry experts from the world's top organizations who will share their hunting techniques and strategies. I am excited to co-chair this event as we join together to assist organizations with proactive intrusion detection and help them avoid becoming the next headline."

The THIR Summit was created by SANS, in collaboration with advisory partner Bit9 + Carbon Black, to address a gap in the security landscape. SANS and Bit9 Carbon + Black will join forces with other top threat intelligence experts to provide summit attendees with the knowledge necessary to proactively seek and destroy threats before a data breach occurs. THIR Summit speakers will share specific hunting and incident response techniques and capabilities that can be used to identify, contain, and eliminate adversaries targeting networks. Included among the summit speakers are:

  • Heather Adkins, Information Security Manager, Google
  • Jamie Butler, Chief Scientist, Endgame
  • Ben Johnson, Chief Security Strategist, Bit9 + Carbon Black
  • Rob Lee, Curriculum Lead and Author for Digital Forensic and IR Training for SANS
  • David Sharpe, Incident Handler, GE CIRT
  • Casey Smith, Threat Intelligence Analyst, FirstBank
