Veteran IP Attorney Leads Patent Law Clinic at The John Marshall Law School in Chicago

Intellectual property attorney Vangelis Economou has been named director of the Patent Law Clinic at The John Marshall Law School in Chicago

CHICAGO, Dec. 17, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Intellectual property attorney Vangelis Economou has been named director of the Patent Law Clinic at The John Marshall Law School in Chicago.

Economou, an alumnus of John Marshall, takes on leadership of an established clinic at one of the few law schools in the country selected to participate in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Law School Clinic Certification Program. John Marshall is the only law school in Illinois whose USPTO program focuses on both patent and trademark practice areas.

Economou continues as an adjunct professor at John Marshall. He has wide and varied experience in intellectual property (IP) law, including stints in government (two years as a patent examiner), in industry (at a major aerospace company), and in private practice (at small, large, and solo practices) over a period of more than 30 years.

"I look forward to taking on this new challenge and continuing to guide our students toward being practice ready and enable them to write a patent application in their technical area of expertise after graduation from John Marshall," Economou said.

The John Marshall Law School IP Patent Clinic gives students practical, fully hands-on experience with real inventors, real inventions, and real patent prosecution at the USPTO. It offers pro bono patent work for appropriate inventors and has been successful in securing many patents since its inception in 1994.

The John Marshall Law School, ranked 17 in IP in 2015 by U.S. News & World Report, has been leading the way in IP legal education since 1940. With more than 50 specialized IP courses, John Marshall offers the widest selection of IP topics of any law school in the nation.
