Commonwealth Awards Scitent Grant Funding for Track Record of Job Creation

City of Charlottesville Office of Economic Development Matches State Grant

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA--(Marketwired - January 13, 2016) - Scitent, Inc., a full-service eLearning company dedicated to the growth of an organization's eLearning business, today announced it has received funding from the Virginia Jobs Investment Program (VJIP), with an additional match from the City of Charlottesville Office of Economic Development (OED).

VJIP's Small Business Jobs Grant Fund supports Virginia companies with fewer than 250 employees who have created at least five new full-time jobs within a 24-month period. The purpose of VJIP funding is to help existing businesses offset recruiting and training costs, including work-related challenges and workshops for organizational development. The OED can match a VJIP-administered grant to recognize a firm's creation of new jobs.

Although in its 21st year of business, Scitent continues to expand and contribute to the local economy in job creation, adding 14 full-time positions in the past two years, including six in 2015.

According to Jason Ness, business development manager of the OED, the City of Charlottesville matches the Commonwealth's VJIP program to support economic development and to encourage local businesses to grow and expand rather than leave the region. "The City's VJIP match program seeks to build strong relationships so we can connect growing City businesses to resources, future opportunities and, ultimately, create and keep jobs in Charlottesville," Ness said.

Scitent President and CEO Deb McMahon said many business leaders find it challenging to fill technology and high-level sales positions in Central Virginia. "We're thrilled Scitent is being recognized for our commitment to local job creation. As Scitent continues to expand, we're committed to this community and look to regional talent to fill sales, marketing, technology, instructional design and finance positions," McMahon stressed, adding the online learning company will utilize the VJIP and city-matched funding to invest in professional development for employees.
