Fallas Family Vision Utilizes Advanced Technology to Aid in Early Diagnoses of Eye Disease

MCDONOUGH, Ga., March 13, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Fallas Family Vision utilizes advanced technology to aid in early diagnosis of vision-related diseases. The clinic uses the Zeiss Cirrus HD-OCT to diagnose degenerative eye diseases such as glaucoma and macular degeneration.  This machine allows the clinic’s doctors to spot small areas of pathology within the eye, provides accurate data about changes in the eye, and allows the practitioner to view eye tissue from a variety of angles to detect problems in their earliest stages.  The machine also tracks changes in a patient’s eye from one visit to the next and provides the doctor with a statistical analysis of changes in the eye.

According to Dr. Humberto Fallas of Fallas Family Vision, the Zeiss Cirrus HD-OCT has greatly improved his practice’s ability to offer the best treatment possible to his patients. “Early diagnosis is critical in the successful management of chronic eye disease such as glaucoma and macular degeneration.  As with any medical condition, an early diagnosis and medical intervention work together to intervene and slow disease progression.  I believe that this is especially critical when it comes to vision loss. Anything we can do to slow or halt the progression of degenerative eye disease will greatly impact the patient’s quality of life,” stated Dr. Fallas.

According to the National Eye Institute, more than 142 million individuals in the United States over the age of 40 have been diagnosed with age-related eye disease. Among these diseases, age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy are among the most common chronic conditions affecting a combined 12.3 million individuals.  While there is no cure for these diseases, they can be managed and symptoms alleviated with medical intervention. If left untreated, these diseases will cause a degradation of vision and may even cause blindness.

“These conditions are closely related to other health problems the patient may have,” said Dr. Fallas. “Those who are afflicted with diabetes or high blood pressure, especially if it is untreated or poorly managed, will see that it affects other systems of the body as well. Diabetes is particularly hard on the body. We encourage our diabetic patients to keep regular appointments with us so that we can keep a close eye on their eye health and vision. We monitor and track changes in their eye and create an individualized treatment plan for them.”
