Mapillary's GoPro Connectivity Takes Maps Off the Beaten Path and Into the Hands of the Adventurer

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - Apr 14, 2016) - Mapillary, a community-based photomapping platform, today announced a new update to its GoPro (NASDAQ: GPRO) connectivity, which allows photo mappers to control their GoPro cameras and record GPS coordinates of their photos.

"Many Mapillary members have been using GoPro cameras to capture their adventures since the beginning," said Jan Erik Solem, CEO of Mapillary. "So we wanted to make the process smoother for them."

Mapillary has been providing photos and data for maps of cities, landscapes, and uncharted territories through the eyes of the people exploring them since 2013. By connecting its users' photos with computer vision software to create immersive street level photos, Mapillary also connects adventurers and mappers from around the world by taking maps off the beaten path and into their hands.

Previously, GoPro users had to use a third-party GPS recorder to share their photos on Mapillary. The process to upload them was manual and cumbersome, but with the new GoPro connectivity with Mapillary, users can cut out the middle man between capturing photos and syncing them onto the platform. They can control their GoPro cameras in the Mapillary app and geotag the photos directly on their iPhones -- Android integration to come soon.

"We are excited to see companies like Mapillary use our toolkits to enable better connectivity and simplified user experiences with GoPro cameras", said Adam Silver, director of strategic product partnerships at GoPro.

Mapillary is a community-based mapping photo app that explores more than just streets, providing real-time data for cities and governments at scale. With hundreds of thousands of new photos every day, Mapillary can connect each one to create an immersive ground-level view of the world for users to virtually explore and to document how places change over time.
