Segment and Watsi Allow Businesses to Automatically Donate to Patients in Need of Healthcare Globally

Partnership Enables Segment's More Than 7,000 Customers, Including New Relic, Zenefits and Creative Market, to Integrate Watsi Donations Into Automated Marketing Campaigns

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - June 30, 2016) - Segment, the customer data platform, and Watsi, a nonprofit organization that enables anyone to fund life-changing healthcare for patients around the world, launched a partnership that allows businesses to automate social impact into their marketing efforts. With just a few clicks, businesses can trigger automatic contributions to Watsi when customers take specific actions in their apps or websites. For example, businesses can send Watsi gift cards to customers when they sign up, upgrade or complete any pre-designated action.

"We created Watsi to change healthcare by harnessing the power of technology to connect people who can't afford basic medical care with donors around the world," said Watsi Co-Founder Grace Garey. "With Segment, Watsi can scale faster, leveraging in-app actions to fuel contributions. This is the next step in achieving Watsi's mission to fund low-cost, high-impact healthcare."

Since 2012, people have used Watsi to donate more than $6.5 million to fund healthcare for more than 8,000 patients in 23 countries. Procedures include everything from treating broken bones to complicated heart surgery. With Watsi, 100 percent of donations go directly to patient care.

"Technology is changing corporate social responsibility, making it possible for companies to give anything, to anyone, anywhere," said Peter Reinhardt, co-founder and CEO of Segment. "Karma, or giving back, is one of our company values, so we've partnered with Watsi to bring Karma into our product. The Watsi integration makes it easy to delight customers and pay it forward in a systematic way."

Several Segment and Watsi customers including New Relic, Creative Market and Zenefits are already planning to use the integration to thank customers that finish a demo, take an important step, or complete an order.

"Sending Watsi gift cards has been a really successful way for us to live out our values and delight our customers at the same time," said Tommy Lloyd-Davies, senior segment marketing strategy manager at New Relic. "The response has been incredible, and we're excited to automate it with the Segment integration."
