Filthy Precision, by Brooklyn-based artist Leo Tecosky, deconstructs iconography through an impressive range of glassmaking techniques. From graffiti letters etched with Islamic patterns to hot-sculpted, Wildstyle-arrow installations, Tecosky juxtaposes the complexity of visual language with the fluidity and transparency of glass. Whether bending neon tubes or screen printing flat glass, his work reflects cultural exchange and the mathematics within archetypes.

The Ugly Hustle, by Chicago-bred and New York-based artist Esteban del Valle, explores the role of the artist as a public figure. Using variations of the self-portrait, his new drawings, silkscreens and paintings illustrate the intense work ethic, self-sacrifice, and determination required to create and sustain a meaningful artmaking practice. Del Valle has exhibited internationally but is known locally for the collaborative mural We Can Create What We Can Imagine in the NEON arts district.

“Working with Leo and Esteban has been a truly enlightening experience,” said Cheryl White, Director of Glass Wheel Studio. “The works in both exhibitions are beautifully conceived and are sure to stimulate conversations about contemporary visual aesthetics, iconography and the many ways artists interpret and experience the human condition.”

Fans have the opportunity to meet both artists at the opening on July 23 while enjoying passed hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar, of which proceeds will be donated to Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters. There will also be an outdoor projection in Glass Wheel’s courtyard featuring the time-lapse video of Esteban del Valle’s recently-painted, Imagination Encircles the World mural at CHKD.  Additionally, that Saturday at noon Leo Tecosky will be at the Chrysler Museum Glass Studio for a free glassmaking demo.
