Breast Obsessed? Yes, Declares Global Survey Results by ISAPS

U.S. Women in Particular Share a Desire for an Ample Chest

NEW YORK, Aug. 25, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Women’s bodies are defined by their curves. While they work to whittle away their waist, more and more females are eager to grow their chest. In their newly released global survey results, the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) shows that the number of breast augmentation surgeries has increased by 10.4% from the previous year.

Most Popular Worldwide Surgical Procedure in 2015:
Procedure     2015  2014    Increase
Breast Augmentation1,488,9921,348,197 10.4%

In particular, women in the United States are opting for this popular procedure, with over 309,000 surgeries in 2015. “We see that surgeries differ according to cultural preferences, and our reports show the United States leading the world in the number of breast augmentation procedures,” states Susumu Takayanagi, MD, President of ISAPS. He believes that women looking into this procedure have an advantage in knowing that breast augmentation techniques have been refined and perfected over the years. “I am happy to report that those looking to increase their chest size will find that ISAPS has a wealth of qualified top surgeons to consult.” The full results of the survey are available on the ISAPS website (http://www.isaps.org) in the News section, and discussed at its biennial global Congress in Kyoto, Japan, October 23–27, 2016.

In addition to the trend of increased surgeries, breast augmentation also has among the highest patient satisfaction ratings for plastic surgery. Many women experience an immediate improvement in their self-esteem, and discover a greater self-confidence. With the advancements in breast reconstruction following mastectomies, many patients are reporting happy results. “We are thrilled to provide what we can, aesthetically, to women who are breast cancer survivors,” states ISAPS President-elect, Dr. Renato Saltz. Dr. Saltz practices in Salt Lake City, Utah, and is the founder of the non-profit Image Reborn Foundation, which provides no-cost healing retreats to women diagnosed with breast cancer. ISAPS places patient safety and satisfaction as its highest priority and will discuss the popularity of breast augmentation in depth at the Congress this October.

The International Survey on Aesthetic/Cosmetic Procedures Performed in 2015, a worldwide collection of information on surgical and non-surgical treatments from 2015, was tabulated from a questionnaire sent to approximately 35,000 plastic surgeons in the ISAPS database. ISAPS is the only organization that collects this type of data on a global scale, and the study is viewed as a valuable resource in the field. The survey was compiled, tabulated and analyzed by Industry Insights, Inc., http://www.industryinsights.com, an independent research firm based in Columbus, Ohio.
