Game Plan and Purdue University Athletics Partner to Provide Student-Athletes with Post-Collegiate Personal & Professional Development

GREENVILLE, N.C., Dec. 08, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Game Plan, the comprehensive student-athlete development platform that unifies and aligns athletic departments, athletes, and employers, is thrilled to announce the addition of Purdue University to its growing roster of partners. Purdue University’s John R. Wooden Leadership Institute will utilize Game Plan’s comprehensive platform to provide personal and professional development resources as a part of its Boiler Life After Sport (BLAST) programming.

Through its partnership with Game Plan, Purdue Athletics is providing its junior and senior BLAST student-athletes with the skills necessary to be successful beyond their time in college and sports. The BLAST program provides a variety of resources, speakers, assessments and trainings for program participants – ranging from financial education to health and wellness post-college, as well as athletic identity.

“We’re excited to use Game Plan’s assessments and Career Marketplace as a part of our BLAST program,” said Cathy Wright-Eger, Leadership Advisor at Purdue’s John R. Wooden Leadership Institute. “We started BLAST to help our student-athletes better transition out of college athletics into the workplace and to do that, we need a variety of tools and resources to help us get there.”

“As a former Purdue student-athlete, I am proud of the work and innovation taking place within Purdue’s athletic department and in particular with regards to supporting its student-athletes,” explains Erica Cenci, Game Plan Director of Business Development. “The BLAST program at Purdue is one of the first in the country really focused on comprehensively preparing student-athletes for the transition out of sports. It’s exciting to see Game Plan used for such a specific mission and purpose -- and ultimately one that is core to who we are at Game Plan as well.”

The John R. Wooden Leadership Institute utilizes resources developed by Coach Wooden. Resources will include the legendary Pyramid of Success, the teachings of Coach Wooden and books written by Coach Wooden. The curriculum includes a public service component during each year of enrollment at Purdue University. Purdue student-athletes that complete the John R. Wooden Institute curriculum will receive the prestigious certificate of achievement.
