“I look forward to supporting Pathway Health’s expert consultants as they assist senior care management teams to improve their effectiveness and efficiency in post-acute care settings leading to better overall results,” said Douglas Olson.

Among Dr. Olson’s achievements and contributions in the field of senior care management is the creation and dissemination of the LEAD tool, a unique, structured team reflection that helps senior care organizations’ management teams improve and ultimately lead their communities to even better outcomes. The LEAD tool is specifically designed for senior care management teams at the community and facility levels to assess how they work together as a team, and identifies strengths and limitations. The tool is put together using a combination of organizational and leadership practices that measure the performance of the team, and through a guided, practical process helps them identify ways they can function even better.

Dr. Olson is a professor with the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s (UWEC) nationally recognized health care administration program and the Director of the Center for Health Administration and Aging Services Excellence. He is currently involved in applied research efforts focusing on leadership, organizational roles and best practices in leadership development in the health and aging services field. Before joining the UWEC faculty, Olson was the community administrator responsible for operations of a long-term care campus in Minnesota. He has 20 years of direct experience working and consulting with various types of health care organizations.

Dr. Olson received his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in Health Services Research, Policy and Administration with a dual minor in Management and Aging Studies, and his MBA from the University of St. Thomas. Dr. Olson has given numerous national and regional presentations and has been published in a variety of publications.

Dr. Olson has served on the American College of Health Care Administrators’ (ACHCA) Board of Directors and Academy for Long-Term Care Leadership and Development; and has serviced on the American Health Care Association’s National Quality Award Program Board of Overseers.

“We are pleased to have created a relationship with Dr. Olson. His knowledge and expertise in the health care administration profession is a natural fit for our company and will help us further solidify our management expertise in the changing landscape of health care,” said Pathway Health Chief Executive Officer Peter B. Schuna. “As we continue to serve our clients with their administrative needs, the LEAD tool will provide insights for management teams to discover how they can improve their approaches and how they can work even better together.
