Painters District Council No. 30 Awards Grant to A Soldier’s Journey Home

The nonprofit organization builds new homes for wounded veterans.

AURORA, Ill., May 09, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Painters District Council No. 30 (PDC 30) has selected an award recipient for its Spring 2017 Community Service Grant. The organization, A Soldier’s Journey Home, has a mission familiar to any who watched Extreme Home Makeover: to work with local communities and build homes for wounded veterans.

The PDC 30 community service project, scheduled for May 13 and 14, will consist of drywall finishing and priming the interior of a newly constructed home for veteran Tony Chobanov. The Spring Grove, IL residence will be completed in just one week by volunteers comprised of union trades workers and church groups. PDC 30 trade workers who volunteer their time will complete the drywall finishing and priming work.

“We are so excited to play our part in giving Tony the home he deserves,” said Ryan Anderson, Business Manager/Secretary-Treasurer of PDC 30. “There’s no feeling in the world like helping someone who helped you. Tony fought hard to protect our freedom, and we’re honored to give two days of our time as a thank you for all that he did.”
