US$1.8 Million For a Bag With Traces of Moon Dust? – Humanity Was Robbed

For All Moonkind, Inc. Announces Formation of International Advisory Council

NEW YORK, July 25, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- For All Moonkind, Inc. ( today announced the formation of an International Advisory Council which will develop and implement the nonprofit organization’s plan to obtain United Nations protection of the six Apollo Lunar Landing Sites and related artifacts.  Inaugural members of the Advisory Council are Gilles Doucet, Humaid Alshamsi, Roy Balleste, Matt Spielman and Himawan Gunadhi

“Though we are based in the US, we are an international organization,” said Michelle Hanlon, US space lawyer and Co-Founder of For All Moonkind. “Gilles Doucet has made important contributions to international space policy through his work on the Manual on International Law Applicable to Military Uses of Outer Space. We are delighted that he has agreed to join our team.”

For All Moonkind was critical of the 20 July auction by Sotheby’s of the Apollo 11 Contingency Lunar Sample Return Bag used by astronaut Neil Armstrong. “This isn’t just a bag,” explained Ottawa-based Space Consultant and Advisory Council Member Gilles Doucet, “it’s an artifact of one of humanity’s greatest achievements: first steps on a celestial body.  This legacy should not just be for collectors. It belongs to all of us… our grandchildren, our grandchildren’s grandchildren.”

"For All Moonkind recognizes that, although the Apollo missions were American, the achievement is global and Canadians were substantially involved,” said Doucet. “The cancellation of the Avro Arrow jet fighter in 1959 put thousands out of work. Some of the brightest aerospace engineers from that program found a new home at NASA and were key members of the Apollo team," he continued.  “I am proud to join For All Moonkind and aid in this effort to preserve the lunar artifacts and landing sites which are monuments to the human spirit."

The organization will present its plan to obtain United Nations protection of the Apollo Lunar Landing Sites and artifacts at the Starship Congress 2017 in Monterey, California August 7-9.
