Quantenna and Cortina Access Demonstrate Industry’s First 802.11ax Dual Band Dual Concurrent Wi-Fi Fiber/PON Gateway Platform

New Gateway Platform Supports UHD on-demand video and voice-controlled Internet of Things devices to cloud gaming, AR/VR and other emerging applications

FREMONT, Calif. and SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 14, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- IBC2017 Quantenna Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:QTNA), the innovator and global leader of high performance Wi-Fi solutions, and Cortina Access, Inc., a leading provider of fiber access & carrier-grade gateway solutions, today announced a collaborative demonstration of a Dual 4x4 802.11ax 10G fiber/PON gateway reference platform at IBC 2017 in Amsterdam. The reference platform integrates Quantenna’s QSR5G-AX 802.11ax Wi-Fi and Cortina’s CA7742 10G multi-service gateway processor to support delivery of multi-gigabit broadband services that can be seamlessly distributed throughout subscriber’s homes.

“This new technology collaboration with Cortina will bring to market the best-of-breed broadband service gateway and 802.11ax Wi-Fi capabilities into a single integrated platform targeting mass deployment,” said Lionel Bonnot Senior Vice President of Marketing and Business Development, Quantenna. “We are excited to demonstrate an end-to-end solution that will enable service providers to provide their customers best in class wireless experience while matching state of the art 10G Fiber/PON access speeds.”

Quantenna’s QSR5G-AX solution supports 8 total streams of 802.11ax: 4 streams in the 5GHz band and 4 streams in the 2.4GHz band. It is a highly integrated access point chipset providing dual band, dual concurrent operation and management within a small form factor design. For external host CPUs, the QSR5G-AX provides a rich set of interface connectivity options, and together with its unique full-offload architecture, it is able to significantly reduce the CPU loading for 802.11ax Wi-Fi performance. In addition to Wi-Fi, the QSR5G-AX also supports a co-existence interface for external Internet-of-Things radios that are rapidly being deployed. These 802.11ax access point solutions are designed to be compatible to both future 802.11ax client devices as well as existing Wi-Fi client devices such as Quantenna's best-in-class 802.11ac/n/a/g/b solutions.

“With this kind of integration and performance, Cortina together with Quantenna is driving home network connectivity performance to a level that has never been achieved before,” said Dr. Stewart Wu, Vice President of Marketing at Cortina Access. “Quantenna’s QSR5G-AX solution integrated into Cortina’s innovative Super-Gateway-ArchitectureTM enables a powerful home router platform that is able to address the bandwidth requirements needed to support the increased consumption of high-bandwidth content, growing demand for UltraHD, as well as the emergence of secured IoT and smart home applications.”

Cortina’s CA7742 solution features a quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 64-bit CPU at up to 1.5GHz. The Super-Gateway-Architecture enables true zero-CPU load on acceleration of 10Gbps wire-speed network routing, Wi-Fi bridging and hardware VPN. The Cortina CA7742 also supports extensive high-speed interfaces such as dual 10 Gbps XFI interface for connectivity to multi-gigabit modem or a copper PHY, an integrated XAUI port, multi-port Gigabit Ethernet Switch and PHY, multiple SATA III, USB 3.0 ports and PCIe ports. With its leading edge architecture design and flexible power save modes, the Cortina CA7742 is able to operate at a significantly lower power than comparable solutions, for a true fanless design.

Demonstration at IBC 2017
Quantenna will demonstrate the QSR5G-AX 8x8 802.11ax Wi-Fi solution paired with Cortina CA7742 processor during IBC 2017 in Amsterdam on September 15-19, 2017. The gateway joint reference design is now available to OEM and service provider customers.
