To create the distinct design and functionality of the Nebia Shower System, the design team used an assortment of nozzles commonly used in combustion engines and the agricultural and industrial cleaning industries to create the halo-shaped head and wand. This construction allows the device to atomize water into millions of droplets, giving off a spa-like effect while significantly reducing water waste.

“The design of the Nebia Shower System is the first thing you notice when you see the product and we spent countless hours working to ensure that it was not only functional, but aesthetically beautiful,” said Philip Winter, Co-founder and CEO of Nebia. “To be included in the Innovation Design Awards alongside so many other impressive companies is incredibly humbling and inspires us to keep looking for ways to create new experiences with water that people enjoy more and that push the envelope in terms of sustainability.”

One of the most sought-after design industry awards, The 2017 Innovation By Design Awards honor the designers and businesses solving the problems of today and tomorrow. The competition, now in its sixth year, has featured a cross-section of blue-chip companies, scruffy startups, and hungry young talents.

Finalists were selected from more than 2,500 international submissions in 13 categories. The entries were judged by a selection of designers, business leaders, and Fast Company editors and ultimately narrowed down to 299 entrants–the most in the award program’s history. Entries were judged on the key ingredients of innovation: functionality, originality, beauty, sustainability, depth of user insight, cultural impact and business impact. This year’s judging panel, comprised of some of the world’s best design minds, included actor and furniture designer Terry Crews, Kickstarter CEO Yancey Strickler and Roman Mars, Founder of 99% Invisible. All of the honorees are currently featured in the October issue of the print magazine.

About Nebia
Nebia, founded in 2014 and headquartered in San Francisco, is an innovative shower system that is redefining the shower experience. By using a unique water droplet technology that atomizes water, the shower system is able to create millions of tiny droplets at a high velocity, simulating the sensation of using more water while actually using up to 70 percent less. The average shower lasts about 8 minutes and uses 20 gallons of water compared to Nebia which uses only six gallons. The concept for Nebia was born as a Kickstarter program and began shipping units worldwide in January 2017. The company has a wide fan base, including Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, who is also an investor and has received many accolades including: Fast Company's Innovation by Design Award, CLIO Award for Product Design, D&AD Graphite Pencil Award for Product Design, Business Insider Most Exciting Innovation Award, Spark Design Award for Product Design and an IF Design Award.
