Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters’ Local 158 Members Lend Their Skills to Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 06, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Over the past four years, the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters (NRCC) has partnered with Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia to help build 15 new homes in the City of Philadelphia.

In addition to working with the Philadelphia affiliate of Habitat for Humanity, NRCC carpenters give back and lend their carpentry skills to chapters in all of the states that the Council represents in the Northeast.

Last year, Local 158 carpenters dedicated their time and expertise to frame Habitat houses for the Diamond Park development, located along the 2000 block of N. 16th Street in North Philadelphia. Later this year, carpenters are expected to assist Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia in the final phase of development at Diamond Park by assisting in the construction of the final five homes.

“The Carpenters have been such amazing partners to Habitat,” said Carrie Rathmann, Director of Strategic Partnerships at Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia. “They have been a strong force in helping us build strength, stability and self-reliance for the families we work for within the City.”

NRCC Local 158 Council Representative, Mark Durkalec, acts as a liaison between the NRCC and Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia, and said he encourages all Local 158 members to give back to the community.

“It’s extremely important as carpenters that we give back to the communities that we live and work in,” said Durkalec. “As Carpenters, we care about the Philadelphia community and are more than willing to lend our skills to help those who are less fortunate than us.”

In 2018, Durkalec expects Local 158 carpenters to assist in the construction of additional Habitat for Humanity homes in the City of Philadelphia.
