TORONTO, Nov. 27, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Ontario Energy Association (OEA) welcomes a number of elements of the PC Party’s People’s Guarantee that reflect policy positions put forward by the OEA. The OEA commends the PC Party for the following commitments that reflect OEA policy:
- requiring long-term energy plans to be brought before the provincial legislature for public debate
- requiring that the IESO study a range of policy goals, but not force them on the system operator
- reforming the energy planning system to make it expert led and more transparent
- reducing administrative burdens that drive up the cost of utility rate applications
- enabling a flexible regulator that can embrace innovation
- continuing with the IESO’s Market Renewal project, which aims to foster competition for future energy and capacity procurement
- listing carbon pricing as a separate line item on natural gas bills
OEA positions have been developed and vetted by Ontario’s energy leaders that represent the breadth of the sector, making them an excellent choice for political parties looking to put forward meaningful, positive reforms. As the June election approaches, the OEA will continue to work with all political parties to encourage adoption of the OEA Energy Platform.
