Noël pour tous Event Kickstarts the Holiday Season at the Greatest Enjoyment of Thousands of Underprivileged Children

MONTREAL, Dec. 01, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Welcome Hall Mission, which offers the largest direct food assistance program open to low-income Montrealers, will hold its Noël pour tous event tomorrow, to mark the start of the Holiday Season. On this special day, 2,750 children will have the joy of receiving gifts according to their age group. The event also marks the opening of the Christmas Market at the Marché Bon Accueil, a unique place in Quebec where disadvantaged families from Montreal will be able to come and get free food that will allow them to have a wonderful holiday meal.

This beautiful Christmas tradition is a way for us to support our families that are struggling all year long to feed their children and put a roof over their heads,” says Sam Watts, president and CEO of Welcome Hall Mission. For some of them, the gifts received during Noël pour tous will be the only ones they will have at Christmas. It is therefore very important for us to make this day a magical one. “

A total of 8,250 toys will be distributed to the children present at the event by Santa Claus himself (who, it is a secret, will be generously personified by the mayor of the South West borough and President of the Executive Committee of the City of Montreal, Mr. Benoît Dorais). Welcome Hall Mission also wishes to thank Cafe Southside, Hasbro, Ilot 307, Mega Brands and VoluntEARS Disney for their generous contribution that will make Noël pour tous an unforgettable event, not to mention the many volunteers who come to lend a hand every year during this event.

Marché Bon Accueil becomes the Christmas Market

For the first time this year, the Marché Bon Accueil will be transformed into a Christmas market for the holiday period, which will turn the page on the traditional distribution of Christmas baskets. Customers of Welcome Hall Mission will now be able to wander through the unique grocery aisles to choose their favourite foods. Each week, more than 2,400 people eat with food distributed by Welcome Hall Mission, representing a total of nearly one million kilograms of food annually.

Tis the Season for Giving – But Give Wisely

As the Holiday season deploys, donors will be invited to contribute to many causes and should consider if their donation will create the biggest bang for their buck. For example, food bought in a supermarket with after-tax dollars delivers less and costs more. Instead, consider the buying power of some organizations that are making a difference in the community. At Welcome Hall Mission, we can turn a $10 donation into over $100 worth of food because of our food recuperation capabilities and economies of scale. It is also important to consider that donors can obtain a significant tax break if the money is given to an organization that is authorized to issue tax receipts. Giving this holiday season is the right thing to do. How you give and whom you give it to matters. So give well and give effectively.
