Violet Defense Collaborates with UCF to Bring Ultraviolet Technology Protection to Staff & Students

ORLANDO, Fla., May 03, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Violet Defense Technology, an Orlando-based company that incorporates the proven germ-killing power of UV light into its patented solutions, is collaborating with UCF Student Health Services to help keep students and staff healthy.  UCF Student Health Services provides a variety of primary and specialty care services to over 6,000 patients each month.

With the addition of the Violet Defense S.A.G.E. (Surface & Air Germ Elimination) UV products, UCF Student Health Services has been able to further its mission of providing excellent healthcare to the UCF community by enhancing protection from harmful bacteria and viruses for its students and staff, including being more prepared to handle any potential outbreaks.  In just the past few months, Norovirus outbreaks have struck 3 higher education institutions in the U.S., resulting in at least 165 illnesses, as well as causing schools to take substantial measures to help disinfect their campus and even close school to help prevent the spread of the virus.

“It is incredibly important for us to be able to keep our students and staff safe and healthy,” said Dr. Michael Deichen, Director, UCF Student Health Services.  “In light of recent outbreaks at other universities throughout the country, we are proud to be proactively evaluating solutions that can not only help protect our campus day-to-day, but in the event of any larger issues, we will be ready to deal with them effectively,” added Dr. Deichen.

UCF has been working with Violet Defense to evaluate the mobile versions of the S.A.G.E. UV line by using the products to disinfect bathrooms, procedure rooms, labs, and more.   S.A.G.E. UV units have been proven through independent laboratory testing to effectively kill up to 99.9 percent of the most common germs, including MRSA, E. coli, Salmonella and Norovirus, from as far as three meters away.

“This collaboration with UCF has been meaningful for us to not only obtain real-world validation of the effectiveness of our products but it allows us the opportunity to bring this proven technology to spaces that have not previously had cost-effective UV options available to them,” said Terrance Berland, COO of Violet Defense.

While the collaboration has focused on mobile solutions, S.A.G.E. UV products are also available in installed versions that could be mounted in restrooms, procedure rooms, laboratory, and other types of spaces throughout the campus.  The S.A.G.E. units have onboard programming that allows them to operate autonomously, meaning spaces with units installed can be automatically disinfected anytime the rooms are unoccupied.  With that type of solution, bacteria and virus levels are continuously being knocked down, so that people in those areas are protected throughout the day, without adding to ongoing labor expenses for the custodial staff.
