Atlas Growers Appoints Peter Elzinga to the Chair of the Board of Directors


EDMONTON, Alberta, May 15, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ATLAS GROWERS LTD. (“Atlas or the Corporation) announces the appointment of Mr. Peter Elzinga, ICD.D, as Chairman of the Board of Directors effective immediately. Mr. Elzinga will be instrumental in providing guidance, governance and input in the Corporation's goal of becoming a leading supplier of medical cannabis internationally.

Mr. Elzinga was the Executive Director of the Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta from 1993 to 1998 and was Chief of Staff to the Office of the Premier of the Province of Alberta from February 1998 to March 2004. Mr. Elzinga was elected as Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta for Sherwood Park from 1986 to 1993 during which time he served as Deputy Premier, Minister of Federal and Intergovernmental Affairs, and Minister responsible for Government Reorganization from 1992 to 1993; Minister of Economic Development and Trade from 1989 to 1992; and Minister of Agriculture from 1986 to 1989. Prior to his election to the Alberta Provincial Legislature, Mr. Elzinga served for twelve years in the Parliament of Canada representing the Pembina constituency and served as President of the Progressive Conservative Association of Canada from 1983 to 1986.

Mr. Elzinga is a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD.D) and currently Mr. Elzinga is President of Elicia Holdings Ltd. and Chairman of the Goodfish Lake Business Corporation Board. Mr. Elzinga was formerly the Honorary Consul for the Federative Republic of Brazil, is a former director of EPCOR, and is the former Vice President and Director for Edmonton Northlands. Mr. Elzinga has also served as Chairman of Servus Credit Union and past Chairman and Director of Athabasca Minerals Inc., past member of the Board of the “Peter Elzinga Family Educational Foundation”, and past Chairman of the Board of Christina River Enterprises.

Peter was Kinsmen of the Year in 1972/1973, received the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal in January 2003, and in September 2005 he received the Alberta Centennial Medal for outstanding service to the community, province and country.
