SafeDNS Showcases Brand-new Threat Intelligence System at Cloud Expo Asia Hong Kong 2018

In May SafeDNS presented Octopus, a new analytical and threat intelligence system, to attendees of CEAHK 2018, the large cloud and cyber security exhibition in Hong Kong

Alexandria, VA, June 01, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- During the huge event visited by over 9000 people all over APAC SafeDNS, a leading provider of cyber security solutions showcased the threat intelligence system for security analysts and incident responders. Octopus is created to provide them with actionable information to retrospectively analyze a state of the internet and is launched in a beta test mode.

What's Octopus needed for

Security pros know all too well that business, large and small, suffers heavy damage due to cyber crime that proliferates rapidly. Bad actors become ever more sophisticated at hiding their illicit activity on the internet. To overcome these issues security teams need an efficient tool.

Octopus is designed to be exactly that. The SafeDNS analytical and threat intelligence system provides passive DNS historical data. It allows security analysts to detect patterns of malicious activity, identify phishing and other targeted attacks. Octopus provides unique intelligence about related domains, IP addresses, queries, and their geographical distribution to thoroughly study and analyze the information.

What can Octopus users do with the info it provides

Octopus enables users to:

  • Identify, track and remediate security threats
  • Identify all IP addresses that a cybercriminal is using to conceal malicious activity
  • Uncover all domains within the same name server infrastructure used by a detected "bad" domain
  • Automate the analysis of existing processes using RESTful Octopus API
  • Reveal connection between sources of threats to track and block their activity

Armed with this information security pros can better resist cybercriminals' attempts to use the internet infrastructure to carry out attacks and hide them through changes in IP addresses, domains and name servers. Octopus will help users to increase their potential to improve internet security.

Where does SafeDNS get data for Octopus

The accuracy of the SafeDNS threat intelligence system is achieved through the company’s own technology for automatic categorization of internet resources and one for detection of botnets and malicious sites. To add data to Octopus we also use DNS requests collected via the SafeDNS cloud service, over 1B requests processed daily. By now the company has 180M domains in web crawler index and 1.2B records of passive DNS data.

Octopus’s attracted attention of CEAHK 2018 attendees. A number of them registered to try the analytical system. Beta testers appreciated this opportunity to get for free information that cost tens of thousands of dollars.
