Dynapower Receives Innovation Award for Utility-Scale Solar Plus Storage DC-DC Converter

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt., July 24, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Dynapower, the technology leader in power electronics for energy storage, is proud to announce receipt of the prestigious 2018 Electrical Energy Storage (ees) Innovation Award for its DPS-375 DC-DC converter. The innovative DPS line of DC-DC converters significantly reduces the cost to couple battery energy storage with utility-scale solar plants. Dynapower’s DPS technology increases energy production and revenue of utility-scale solar projects.

“The ees Innovation Award provides recognition of DC coupled systems, and to the ingenuity of our team,” said Chip Palombini, Director of Energy Storage at Dynapower.

Energy storage systems are an essential pillar to integrating additional renewable energy generation to the grid, and converter, otherwise intermittent generation resources, to dispatchable assets. “The DPS line of DC-DC converters will accelerate that transition with its increased economic benefits over AC-coupled solutions,” said Palombini.

Established in 2014, the ees Award pays tribute to pioneering products and solutions for stationary and mobile electrical energy storage systems. “Dynapower wowed our judges in Germany and around the world with their product (DPS-375),” said Jim Callihan, director of sale and marketing at Intersolar & ees North America. “Not only can the systems reduce costs and increase outputs of utility-scale solar plus storage installations, the judges noted the ability scale from 375kW to 3MW was of exceptional importance.” The ees Award is presented each year by the organizers of ees in cooperation with international industry associations. It was recently presented to Dynapower at ees North America in San Francisco as part of Intersolar North America, which attracted over 14,000 attendees.

Dynapower has deployed its DC-DC converters in several utility-scale solar plus storage installations and has multiple forthcoming multi-megawatt DC-coupled solar plus storage installations, including several in Massachusetts that recently introduced the SMART program to increase the amount of utility-scale solar plus storage in the state. “Being our neighbor to the south, it is great to be part of such a forward-thinking program that is working to transition Massachusetts to a cleaner, more sustainable power grid,” noted Palombini.

DYNAPOWER
To date, Dynapower has supplied over 420MWs of energy storage inverters, DC-DC Converters, and fully-integrated energy storage systems for energy storage installations worldwide. Dynapower energy storage inverters power the United States’ largest wind plus storage farm in NoTrees, TX (36MWs), first utility-scale solar plus storage facility in Rutland, Vermont, the nation’s largest NetZero building in Los Angeles, and have been deployed to help island nations transition to be run on 100% renewable energy. Additionally, Dynapower’s MPS-250 was the first energy storage inverter to receive UL 1741 Smart Inverter designation, and Dynapower was the first power electronics manufacturer to commercially deploy a DC-DC converter for utility scale solar plus storage. In 2017, Dynapower was granted a patent for its groundbreaking Dynamic Transfer technology, which monitors the grid and seamlessly transitions a facility from grid-tied to battery backup power in the case of a grid disturbance, providing critical resiliency for commercial and industrial businesses.
