TORONTO, Nov. 21, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Canada’s most ambitious esports racing competition is coming to the Canadian International AutoShow thanks to Pfaff, Xbox, Castrol, and WorldGaming. Attendees to the show will be able to experience this unique competition from the driver’s seat of Forza Motorsports 7 – with a national championship, $20,000 in prize money and a once-in-a-lifetime chance to race with Pfaff Motorsports on the line.
To be promoted on Cineplex movie screens nationwide, every Canadian over the age of 14 with access to an Xbox One is eligible to compete in the Pfaff Forza Motorsport 7 WorldGaming Network (WGN) Canadian Challenge, driven by Castrol. There are two ways to join: open online qualifiers that will be staged throughout January and February on worldgaming.com, and a live event at the Canadian International AutoShow. At the live qualifier, attendees will be able to use VRX racing pods designed to give gamers a state-of-the-art racing experience. The Grand Finals will be staged February 24th live at the AutoShow in the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
“Esports is the fastest growing feature at the AutoShow and the fastest-growing attraction in sports entertainment,” said Jason Campbell, General Manager of the AutoShow. “Hosting the Pfaff Forza Motorsport 7 WorldGaming Network Canadian Challenge, driven by Castrol adds another level of excitement to the attraction.”
The 2019 esports exhibit at the AutoShow will be nearly double the size of last year’s showcase. Produced by Cineplex, WorldGaming, Pfaff, Castrol and Xbox, the esports activation will bring together gamers of all ages and skill levels to test their speed on Forza 7.
“We’re very excited to partner with WorldGaming for the second year in a row to engage with racers, virtual and real, across the country,” says Laurance Yap, Creative Director at Pfaff Automotive Partners. “The Canadian Challenge bridges the gap between the virtual and real racing worlds – the winner of the tournament will have the chance to test a Pfaff race car in 2019 and become part of our company’s long history of developing Canadian driving talent. Holding the tournament live at the auto show, with nine days of live qualifiers, and a one-day live final, really takes the championship to the next level.”
Information on qualifying is available at www.worldgaming.com/Forza7CC.
“Forza Motorsport 7 is already a leading title in racing, and this is the event that racing competitors have been waiting for,” says WorldGaming Network CEO Wim Stocks. “Massive thanks to all our partners who made this competition possible. Fans and car lovers alike will be able to experience first-hand how far our Canadian competitors are willing to push it to win incredible prizes.”
With more than 650,000 square feet of exhibits, displays and attractions at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, the Canadian International AutoShow is not only the largest automotive expo in Canada, it is also the country’s largest consumer show — a leader in lifestyle, technology and all things automotive. It boasts more than 1,000 cars, trucks, SUVs, concept cars, exotics, classics, muscle cars, fully electric and autonomous vehicles each year.
