Spirit Airlines Earns Top Spot for On-Time Performance in U.S. DOT’s Most Recent Report

Operational gains part of Spirit’s continued commitment to Invest in the Guest

MIRAMAR, Fla., Dec. 18, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Spirit Airlines (NYSE: SAVE) claimed the top spot as the most reliable carrier in the country for October 2018, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s most recent reporting.  The report puts Spirit above all other carriers, with 89 percent of all flights landing on time.

Year to date, Spirit ranks in the top four in on-time arrivals, continuing to gain strength throughout the year, including October’s first-place achievement. This effort aligns with Spirit’s Invest in the Guest initiative, a concerted effort to evaluate every facet of the company to improve the Guest experience.

“A couple of years ago, we set out to improve our reliability and Guest experience, and we have done just that,” said John Bendoraitis, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Spirit Airlines.  “We will continue to invest in our Guests, and they should continue to expect great on-time performance from us in the future.”

“We looked at every part of our operation to improve our reliability, including crew scheduling, block times, aircraft utilization and optimized maintenance planning.  Being one of the top airlines in on-time performance is the culmination of a lot of hard work, not just from our operations group, but all our team members, who have dedicated themselves to improving our airline.  The results are a testament to all their great effort,” said Greg Christopher, Vice President of Spirit Airlines’ Operation Control Center.

Beyond being one of the most on-time airlines, Spirit is also among the leaders in baggage handling and has one of the youngest, most fuel-efficient aircraft fleets in the country.  In addition, Spirit recently rolled out a new mobile application, will introduce an improved website in the coming months, and is in the process of installing high-speed, satellite-based Wi-Fi on its entire fleet, the first ultra low-cost carrier to do so.

Spirit also continues to expand its domestic and international network, recently announcing new service to Jacksonville, Florida; Indianapolis, Indiana; Austin, Texas; and Cali, Colombia.
