American Greetings Enlists Harvard Researcher, Dr. Robert Waldinger, to Launch New Brand Platform: Connections Build Us

The Meaningful Connections Company Shines a Light on the Importance of Relationship Care and its Impact on Wellness

Cleveland, OH, Jan. 29, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In a never-ending quest to be happier and healthier, people are constantly seeking new ways to achieve wellness. While many of us consider physical strength as a sign of good health, the Harvard Study of Adult Development, an 80-year longitudinal study of adult physical and psychological development, found that good relationships are major predictors of healthier and happier aging.

To demonstrate this point, American Greetings is unveiling a new video, A True Test of Strength, which uses elite athletes as the ultimate example of physical health in order to show that there is something just as important or more important than all those hours spent at the gym. The video also serves to debut the brand’s new platform, Connections Build Us, which highlights how meaningful connections and strong relationships are important factors in achieving wellness.

“Connections Build Us reminds us that relationship care is good for own health and wellness. One of the most meaningful things you can do to strengthen bonds that are vital to our overall wellness is to reach out with a card and check in with someone you care about,” explains Alex Ho, CMO at American Greetings. “Our hope is to remind consumers that connecting with people through cards can strengthen our relationships. Nothing can substitute the positive feelings we get from healthy relationships.”

To further explore the impact of relationships on wellness, American Greetings is enlisting the Director of the Harvard Study of Adult Development, Dr. Robert Waldinger, to consult on the long-term wellness benefits of maintaining strong relationships. His role builds on the 2018 YouGov Online Survey results commissioned by American Greetings that revealed that 80% of people believe that strong relationships are critical to wellbeing.

“Good relationships help to delay mental and physical decline, and are strong predictors of long and happy lives,” says Dr. Waldinger. “This is why I’m excited to work with American Greetings to help people nurture their relationships and encourage them to think of relationship care as a vital part of staying healthy.”

Through the Connections Build Us platform, we hope to remind consumers that connecting with the people who matter is an important contributor to our overall health and happiness.
