January 29, 2019 (Denver, CO) – Winter Bike to Work Day is Friday, February 8, hosted by Denver Regional Council of Governments' (DRCOG) Way to Go program. If you're new to winter bike commuting or just need a little encouragement to keep it up when the mercury drops, this is the day to make it happen.

Find free food and fun times at breakfast stations around the region, open from 6:30 - 9 a.m. (7 – 9 a.m. in Boulder), motivating riders to brave colder temperatures. Limited evening station times vary. Use this map to find out where to score breakfast burritos, pancakes, coffee, hot cocoa, beer, giveaways and more. Plus, you'll be in good company of fellow winter warriors pedaling to work.

"Last year, the Denver region had the second highest participation in the world," said Douglas Rex, executive director for DRCOG. "This year, we’re going for first place. If you’re used to bike commuting in warmer weather, it takes just a few small adjustments to make winter bike commuting more comfortable."

Those adjustments come down to proper gear and clothing. A warm pair of gloves, a light wool hat and thin layers should cover the basics. If there's snow or ice on the ground, avoid mishaps by using slower speeds and maintaining an upright position, especially when turning. Check out DRCOG's videos on How to Dress for Winter Biking and Tips for Winter Riding for more info.

Ready to give it a try? Commit to ride at winterbiketoworkday.org. The Denver region joins thousands around the globe taking part in International Winter Bike to Work Day.
