Online Grocer Farmstead Teams Up with Non-Profit Food Runners to Help Alleviate Hunger and Prevent Food Waste in the Bay Area

Donations of Farmstead’s fresh, local food delivered daily to local SF non-profits through the Food Runners network

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 12, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Farmstead, the first online grocer to offer fresh, high-quality groceries, delivered for free, at the same prices as local stores, announced today that it has partnered with Food Runners to provide groceries to Bay Area non-profits.

Each day, donations of excess produce, baked goods, milk, yogurt, eggs, fish, poultry, and prepared meal kits are delivered from Farmstead’s warehouse through the Food Runner Network to organizations including St. Francis of Assisi Community, Martin DePorres, Salvation Army Adult Rehab Ctr, SF Quaker Meeting Food Pantry, and St. Vincent DePaul Multi Service Center.

“We are thrilled to work with Food Runners as its mission to reduce food waste and alleviate hunger completely aligns with Farmstead’s commitment to slash food waste in this country and make fresh, local food accessible to everyone,” said Pradeep Elankumaran, CEO and co-founder of Farmstead.  “Food Runners has done an excellent job creating an efficient network that distributes excess food to Bay Area organizations, who in turn get it into the hands of people who need it. We are proud to be working with them.”

“Farmstead is an important new partner of ours, helping us get healthy, locally-sourced food to people in need,” said Nancy Hahn, Operations Manager of Food Runners.  “As a start-up, to offer fresh food for daily donations to local residents says a lot about Farmstead as a company looking to give back and create a tight-knit food community, and we are deeply appreciative of their donations.”
