CALGARY IN THE NEW ECONOMY FOCUS OF REPORT TO COMMUNITY

Successful implementation of Economic Strategy key for Calgary Economic Development

Calgary, Feb. 28, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Talent, Innovation, Place and Business Environment will take centre stage at Calgary Economic Development’s annual Report to the Community and the discussion on how the pillars of the Economic Strategy, Calgary in the New Economy, can interrelate and reinforce each other.

The event includes a panel discussion on the pillars of the strategy with Dr. Katherine Loflin, a leading authority on placemaking; Scott Gravelle, CEO and co-founder of Calgary-based tech company ATTAbotics; Amie Blanchette, Manager, Partnership Services, within Calgary Approvals for the City of Calgary; and Mary Moran, President and CEO of Calgary Economic Development.

“The Economic Strategy is the road map for Calgary and if we get the pillars of the strategy right and embrace the technological disruption in all business, it will spur long-term growth and opportunities for Calgarians,” Moran said.

Moran will also provide an overview of Calgary Economic Development’s accomplishments in 2018 including the roll out of the Economic Strategy, Calgary in the New Economy, and launch of the Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund.

Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi is unable to attend Report to the Community, but in his video message to the audience he will acknowledge the resilience of Calgarians in tough economic times and cited the Economic Strategy as the path forward.

“We have the ability to do more here,” Nenshi said. “Our vision is to be the city of choice in Canada for the best entrepreneurs. We embrace innovation. We create solutions for the world’s greatest needs in food, energy, transportation and in health.”
