EDMONTON, Alberta, March 18, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Yesterday, ICE District Properties Joint Venture completed a major step in the official dismantling of the Stantec Tower crane “jib”, a horizontal beam of the crane that had been essential to the construction of Stantec Tower in Edmonton for more than two years. The removal of the jib provided a first look at Stantec Tower without any exterior construction materials, revealing Edmonton’s transformed skyline and the tallest building in Canada outside of Toronto.
The jib was originally erected inside the building when construction of Stantec Tower began in 2016. Due to the height of the Tower, a street-level crane would not have been able to sustain and support the development of this skyscraper. The final phases of the crane dismantling process will involve demobilizing the remaining mast sections.
“For years, we have watched the highly anticipated development of Stantec Tower gradually grow to become the tallest tower outside of Toronto,” said Tim Shipton, Senior Vice President, Communications, ICE District. “Removing the jib is significant because it now paints the developing picture of Edmonton’s evolving skyline.”
As the building nears the final phase of completion this year, it will contribute to Edmonton’s growth as a city.

Stantec’s sign is also scheduled to be placed on the building in the upcoming weeks, signifying the engineering firm’s official title as the anchor tenant of the building.

Standing at 251 metres tall with 29 floors of commercial office space, Stantec Tower is home to several other tenants, including PwC Canada LLC, Dentons Canada LLP, DLA Piper LLC, and more. SKY Residences, which sits atop floors 30 to 66, will have its residents officially move into the premium suites starting this fall.
