SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept. 18, 2000 -- Integrated Telecom Express, Inc. ("ITeX(TM)") (Nasdaq: ITXI), a provider of ADSL integrated circuits and software today announced its full-rate Scalable ADSL Modem (SAM(TM)) family chipset -- SAM 3, a host-based full-rate ADSL modem solution for ADSL-ready desktop PCs, notebook PCs, workstations, Internet appliances and PDAplatforms. The chipset has integrated many of the external components required by other solutions, resulting in the lowest-cost full-rateADSL chipset on the market today capable of supporting up to 8 Mbps downstream and 768 Kps upstream ADSL data rates.
The SAM 3 optimized partitioning between hardware and software results in low CPU utilization and power consumption. With today's $600-$1,000 PCs, the SAM 3 uses less than 5% of an AMD Athlon or Intel Pentium III 600 MHz CPU processing power for ADSL basic service data rates of 384 Kbps downstream/128 Kbps upstream. Higher speed processors reduce the CPU utilization even further.
ITeX's patented ADSL technologies in the SAM 3 chipset include, but are not limited to: a) Dynamic end-user selection of ADSL line-rate -- G.lite, G.dmt (full-rate), or one of the lower sub-rates offered by most telcos (telecommunications companies), and b) Auto-configuration for simplifying self-installation by subscribers to accommodate the different ADSL standards deployed in central offices. The SAM host-based architecture permits field updates, and enhancements to performance, protocols and future standards through software driver updates. ITeX provides easy-to-install drivers and utilities to take advantage of the SAM architecture.
Rich Forte, President and CEO stated, "This patented breakthrough in ADSL technology will provide broadband Internet access to the masses by delivering a highly integrated, cost-effective, full-rate host-based solution for ADSL-ready PCs, Internet appliances, and PDA platforms. We believe that high performance, stable operation, industry-wide interoperability with central office equipment, long line reach, and easy-to-install software differentiate ITeX ADSL solutions from others. This chipset will lower the cost of ADSL deployment for sub $1,000 PCs by up to 50% over today's DSP-based solutions, by taking advantage of ITeX's innovative silicon architecture."
SAM 3 is fully compliant with ANSI T1.413 Issue 2, G.dmt and G.lite standards. In addition, ITeX supplies software for wide area network(WAN) protocols including Classical IP over ATM, Bridged Ethernet over ATM, PPP over ATM, and PPP over Ethernet, and Windows drivers for Windows 98/2000/Me.
The SAM 3 chipset and software are available in production quantities now, priced as low as $18 per chipset in high volumes. The SAM 3 chipset is comprised of the ITeX i80234 Analog Front End (AFE) and i90816 PCI digital devices.
