Nokia Announces the LoopMaster SE10 Hub/Alarm Expansion Card

Nokia, a world leader in the supply of Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) products and technologies, today announced the introduction of the Nokia LoopMaster SE10 Hub/Alarm Expansion Card. This card complements the Nokia LoopMaster system and provides a cost-effective and space-saving replacement for similar external equipment.

The unit mounts in either the expansion slot or access slots of the Nokia LoopMaster central office chassis (LM16, LM20). The SE10 is fully NEBS Level 3 and UL 1950 compliant.

“We continue to introduce enhancements to the Nokia LoopMaster loop management system,” said Marty Roberson, General Manager of the LoopMaster Product Line, Nokia Broadband Systems. “The SE10 Hub Expansion Card is a very economical way to integrate additional special functions into the LoopMaster chassis. It allows service providers to eliminate costly external equipment while maximizing space at the same time.”

The SE10 operates at 10 Mbps and supports the standard IEEE 802.3 protocol. The unit connects to a network operation center (NOC) via a wide area network (WAN) or over standard phone lines by means of a dial-up modem. In the WAN scenario, the top port of the SE10 unit is connected to a router, which in turn is connected to the WAN. If a dial-up modem is preferred, the NOC center accesses the LoopMaster system controller using point-to-point protocol (PPP) and the controller in turn communicates with the SE10. This application is usually used as a back-up to WAN access in the event of a network failure.

The four alarm inputs on the SE10 can be used for a variety of alarm or monitoring devices such as door alarms, smoke detectors, moisture detectors and others. The alarm input detects loop (relay) closure causing current flow. Once loop closure is detected, the SE10 stores the alarms and can send them to management systems using SNMP, HTTP (e-mail), or contact closure on the rear of the chassis.

“Nokia is excited to offer yet another addition to our already strong line management product portfolio,” said John Ferrari, Senior Director, Worldwide Marketing, Nokia Broadband Systems. “Nokia will continue to engineer solutions that enable economical differentiated services. Whether service providers deploy Nokia’s complete DSL solution or individual product lines, such as the Nokia LoopMaster, carriers will accelerate their deployment of DSL voice and data services.”

Nokia’s complete DSL solution is powered by the Nokia D50 ATM-DSLAM. Other solution components include the Remote Access Module (RAM), Network Management System (NMS), Element Management System (EMS), Subscriber Management (SMS 1800), Customer Care and Billing (CCB), wireline and wireless CPE, VoDSL and broadband wireless routers.
