The Nokia 9210 Communicator and RealNetworks’ Mobile RealPlayer enable broad new class of rich mobile experiences

Nokia, the leader in mobile communications, and RealNetworks® Inc., the leader in Internet media delivery, today unveiled Mobile RealPlayer® for the Nokia 9210 Communicator. Mobile RealPlayer, the wireless version of the world’s most popular digital media player, is designed specifically for communicators and for Symbian's EPOC platform, the open operating platform for the new generation of communicators and smartphones.

"This announcement with RealNetworks marks an important milestone in the mobile industry, and is a result of the efforts we began in June 2000. Mobile communication is becoming increasingly visual, now also enabling access to a rich variety of Internet video and audio content on mobile devices. We are pleased that our collaboration has produced a player which offers users of the Nokia 9210 Communicator the possibility to experience content in the leading Internet media format," said Anssi Vanjoki, Executive Vice President, Nokia Mobile Phones.

“Today’s announcement is a huge step forward in our vision of enabling RealPlayer users to access their favorite Internet media from any device and on any platform,” said Len Jordan, Senior Vice President, Consumer Appliances, RealNetworks, Inc. “The collaboration between RealNetworks and Nokia harnesses the power of the Internet into the most advanced mobility technologies available today, which will drive usage of next-generation wireless networks.”

Mobile RealPlayer and the Nokia 9210 Communicator bring the power of mobility to the Internet media experience, allowing mobile consumers and business professionals to extend relationships with their preferred providers of news, information and entertainment beyond their desktop. Users of the Nokia 9210 Communicator can download and playback their favorite Internet media – including breaking news, sporting events, and music – whenever and wherever they want.

Mobile RealPlayer will be showcased at the Nokia Stand, Hall 26, at the CeBIT 2001 trade fair in Hanover, Germany.
