HARRISBURG, Pa., July 30, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Worldwide industrial services and products company Harsco Corporation (NYSE:HSC) today announced the award of 21 college scholarships valued at more than $300,000, to assist outstanding children of Harsco employees throughout the world obtain the advanced education necessary to reach their career goals. The scholarships provide assistance toward university studies in any country and any discipline, and are worth up to $3,500 per year per individual.
This year's Harsco scholarship winners represent eight different Harsco business units in eight countries, including Canada, France, Indonesia, New Zealand, Slovakia, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States. The winners, seven in the U.S. and 14 international, were independently selected by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation for U.S. recipients and the Institute of International Education for international recipients, based on superior academic achievement, leadership, and personal character.
The awards mark Harsco's 28th consecutive year of college scholarship grants to the top-performing children of its employees, during which time Harsco has awarded more than $2 million in scholarships to more than 300 qualified students. International scholarships were added to the program in 1999, paralleling Harsco's increasing international expansion, and have already accounted for 59 scholarship awards in 14 different countries. All of the scholarships are funded by the separately administered Harsco Corporation Fund.
