The Nokia 6800 phone (GSM/GPRS 850/1900MHz) operates on packet data GPRS networks for high-speed data connectivity and fast delivery of e-mail from POP3 and IMAP4 servers. During the second half of 2003, the Nokia 6800 messaging phone will also include support for RIM BlackBerryÔ e-mail. Compatibility with all of these major e-mail protocols allows businesses to easily add the Nokia 6800 handset to their text and voice communications toolkit.
“We designed the Nokia 6800 messaging phone to be the perfect business companion by being an easy-to-use combination of an e-mail and text messaging device and a conventional wireless phone,” said Paul Chellgren, senior vice president of product management and business development for Nokia. “Already an indispensable part of today’s business world, wireless communication is quickly becoming much more than just voice – and the Nokia 6800 handset is a new kind of communications device that is easy and rewarding for users to integrate into their business lives.”
In addition to e-mail, the Nokia 6800 handset also supports both popular Short Messaging Service (SMS) and new Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS), which allows users to send and receive text and images on the Nokia 6800 phone’s full-color display. For additional functionality, users can attach the optional Camera Headset to the Pop-PortTM connector, allowing digital images to be captured, displayed and instantly sent via MMS or e-mail.
“Along with e-mail and voice communications, the Nokia 6800 messaging phone offers additional forms of communication which will be invaluable to mobile professionals,” said Jake Sagehorn, director of business applications for Nokia. “Imagine, with MMS, a realtor can receive images and details of a new listing, or using Nokia PC Suite, a salesperson can synchronize and store all of their business contacts, and send follow up e-mails while still out of the office – all on one compact mobile device. These are only some of the new applications enabled by today’s wireless networks.”
Additional tools included on the Nokia 6800 handset include JavaÔ functionality for downloading new business applications, SyncML for over-the-air synchronization of calendar, contact and to-do information and an XHTML browser for wireless access to Internet content.
