The early availability of test equipment will allow wireless operators and infrastructure and handset vendors to more quickly implement advanced CDMA2000 1xEV-DV networks. “The sooner that manufacturers can have access to test equipment, the sooner the industry will be able to reap the benefits of CDMA2000 1xEV-DV technology including the ability to offer advanced 3G services to end-users,” said Soren Petersen, senior vice president and general manager of CDMA for Nokia.
For end users, CDMA2000 1xEV-DV offers peak data rates of 3.1 Mbps, a typical throughput rate of 1 Mbps in a 1.25 MHz radio frequency channel, and allows them to perform two high-value tasks simultaneously on a single RF section device. For operators, CDMA2000 1xEV-DV offers the flexibility to dynamically balance voice and data traffic by allocating bandwidth on demand.
“Having supplied test and measurement products for over 40 years, Racal Instruments understands the importance of the early availability of test equipment to the timely implementation of wireless networks,” said Peter Connell, director of the Wireless Solutions Group at Racal. “By working with Nokia on delivering CDMA2000 1xEV-DV test equipment, Racal is playing an important role in the delivery of third generation services to wireless users.”
Both Nokia and Racal Instruments draw upon years of experience in CDMA technology. In 1998, Racal delivered its first test equipment for cdmaOne IS-95 networks, and began producing CDMA2000 test equipment in 2000. Nokia began work on CDMA development in 1991, and has delivered millions of IS-95 and CDMA2000 handsets based on Nokia’s own CDMA chipset design.
